Annecy spreads at the northern tip of a glacier-fed lake hemmed in by alpine peaks. The lake itself is the purest in Europe; Plage d'Albigny and the Jardins de l'Europe are the local summer rendezvous. Annecy is a perfect base year-round: a day trip from Geneva, a gateway to the Aravis range and the Massif des Bauges, and an elegant lakeside dinner before heading higher.
