Chamonix-Mont-Blanc — the capital of the Alps

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc — the capital of the Alps

At the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix is the world's most famous mountain town — Aiguille du Midi, Mer de Glace and legendary ski terrain.

About this destination

Chamonix sits in a deep glacial valley directly under the 4,810 m summit of Mont Blanc. The Aiguille du Midi cable car climbs to 3,842 m in 20 minutes for one of the most spectacular panoramas in Europe; the Montenvers rack railway leads to the Mer de Glace glacier. The town itself keeps a lively year-round pulse — Belle Époque hotels, mountain guides' offices, Savoyard restaurants and the Arve river running through the centre. In winter, five separate ski areas (Brévent-Flégère, Les Grands Montets, Le Tour, Les Houches, Vallée Blanche) cover every level.

Best time to visit

December–April for skiing, June–September for high-mountain hiking and the lifts.

Why a private transfer

The Geneva–Chamonix route crosses the border and climbs the Arve valley with frequent winter traffic. A pre-booked Mercedes with a driver who knows the chain rules, weather and chalet addresses is far simpler than a shuttle or rental.
