Cinque Terre — five cliffside villages on the Ligurian Riviera

Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore: pastel-coloured houses, terraced vineyards and the UNESCO-listed Sentiero Azzurro footpath.

About this destination

The Cinque Terre stretches across 18 km of the Ligurian coast — five fishing villages locked between the sea and the steep terraced vineyards that produce Sciacchetrà passito wine. The whole strip is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a national park: cars are banned in the village centres, so most visitors arrive by regional train or boat. Manarola at sunset is the iconic image; Monterosso has the only proper beach; Vernazza's natural harbour shelters the most cinematic fleet of wooden boats. A private chauffeur to La Spezia or Levanto is the practical way in and out — saving the trains for hopping between villages.

Best time to visit

May–June and September–early October; avoid August heat and August crowds.

Why a private transfer

Cars are restricted inside the park; the closest drop-off points are La Spezia, Levanto and Monterosso parking, all faster and calmer by private chauffeur than by train change.
