Lahemaa National Park — Estonia's Coastal Wilderness

Lahemaa National Park — Estonia's Coastal Wilderness

Estonia's oldest and largest national park: rocky northern coast, bog boardwalks, captains' villages and grand manor houses, 1 h from Tallinn.

About this destination

Lahemaa ('land of bays') protects 725 km² of glacial-erratic coastline, peatland bogs, pine forest and four 18th-century manor estates — Palmse, Sagadi, Vihula and Kolga. The Viru bog boardwalk (3.5 km loop) is Estonia's most photographed nature walk; the captains' villages of Käsmu and Altja preserve 19th-century timber houses; Jägala waterfall and Keila-Joa are nearby. Wildlife: brown bear, lynx, elk.

Best time to visit

May–October for trails; September for misty bog sunrises.

Why a private transfer

No public transport reaches the boardwalks or remote manors. Half- or full-day chauffeur from Tallinn — fixed price, multiple stops.
