Menton — The pearl of the French Riviera

Menton — The pearl of the French Riviera

Lemon-coloured old town on the Italian border, gardens, and Cocteau's Mediterranean.

About this destination

Menton sits at the eastern tip of the French Riviera, against the Italian border, with the warmest microclimate in France. Pastel and lemon-yellow façades climb from the seafront to the Basilique Saint-Michel-Archange, while the Cocteau Museum and the citrus groves give the town its distinctive identity. Every February the Fête du Citron transforms the gardens with monumental sculptures made entirely of lemons and oranges. Outside the centre, the Serre de la Madone and Val Rahmeh botanical gardens grow exotic species found almost nowhere else in Europe.

Best time to visit

February for the Lemon Festival, April–June and September for gardens and beaches without summer crowds.

Why a private transfer

Menton is at the far end of the Riviera coast road, with limited parking near the old town. A private transfer from Nice Airport avoids 90 minutes of guesswork in traffic.
