Pärnu — Estonia's summer capital

Pärnu — Estonia's summer capital

Wide white-sand Baltic beach, art-nouveau spa heritage and a relaxed wooden old town — Estonia's traditional seaside retreat.

About this destination

Pärnu has been Estonia's summer capital since the 19th century. The crescent of white sand on the Gulf of Riga is one of the widest in the Baltics, backed by a pine-shaded park, the elegant white wooden Rannahoone beach pavilion (1939), a long pier and the historic Tervis and Estonia spa hotels descended from the original 1838 mud-cure establishments. The compact old town has the medieval Tallinn Gate, baroque Catherine Church and a low-rise wooden architecture rare in the region. Pärnu sits exactly halfway between Tallinn and Riga on the Via Baltica.

Best time to visit

June–August for the beach; year-round for spa weekends.

Why a private transfer

Pärnu has no commercial airport; a private Mercedes from TLL (1h 45) or RIX (2h 15) is the door-to-spa transfer.
