Tallinn Christmas Market — Town Hall Square
Repeatedly voted Europe's best Christmas market, set on UNESCO Raekoja plats around a giant fir tree.
About this destination
Tallinn's Christmas market on Raekoja plats (Town Hall Square) has been repeatedly ranked Europe's best by European Best Destinations and major travel media. Tallinn shares with Riga the disputed claim to the first public Christmas tree (1441 / 1510). The square — framed by the 13th-century Gothic Town Hall, the only remaining medieval town hall in Northern Europe — fills with handcrafted log cabins selling glögi (hot mulled wine), blood sausage with sauerkraut, smoked Baltic herring, knitted woollens and juniper-wood crafts. Reindeer rides for children, Santa's house, live folk choirs and the constant ringing of the carousel make this Estonia's flagship winter event. The market typically runs from the last weekend of November through 7 January.
