Vilnius — baroque capital of Lithuania

Vilnius — baroque capital of Lithuania

UNESCO old town of baroque churches, Gediminas Tower and the bohemian Republic of Užupis — one of Europe's largest medieval centres.

About this destination

Vilnius is the green, baroque capital of Lithuania, with one of the largest preserved medieval old towns in Eastern Europe — UNESCO-listed since 1994. The skyline is defined by Gediminas Tower on its hill, the white bell tower of Vilnius Cathedral, and dozens of baroque churches: St. Anne's, St. Casimir's, Sts. Peter and Paul's. The bohemian Užupis quarter, with its own tongue-in-cheek constitution, sits just across the Vilnia river. Beyond the centre: Trakai Island Castle on its lake, 28 km west, is the country's most photographed monument. VNO airport is 7 km from the centre.
