Baltic Midsummer — Jāņi, Jaanipäev & Joninės

Baltic Midsummer — Jāņi, Jaanipäev & Joninės

The shortest night of the year, celebrated with bonfires, oak-leaf wreaths, folk songs and country feasts across all three Baltic states.

About this destination

Midsummer (23–24 June) is the most important secular holiday in the Baltics. In Latvia (Jāņi/Līgo) men wear oak-leaf crowns, women weave wildflower wreaths, bonfires burn through the night and tables are loaded with caraway cheese (Jāņu siers) and barley beer. In Estonia (Jaanipäev) families gather at the countryside or seaside; in Lithuania (Joninės) maidens float flower wreaths down rivers. Cities empty — the experience is in the countryside: manor estates, lakeside cottages, open-air museums and folk performances near Sigulda, Pärnu and Kernavė.

Best time to visit

23–24 June (and the weekend closest to it).

Why a private transfer

Public transport collapses on Midsummer eve; rural venues need a car. We pre-book multi-stop chauffeur routes (e.g. Riga → countryside party → return at 4 a.m.) with rested drivers — fixed price, no surge.
