Curonian Spit Summer Season — Nida & the Dunes

Curonian Spit Summer Season — Nida & the Dunes

Lithuania's UNESCO sandbar in its high season — white dunes, Baltic surf, pine forest and the artists' colony of Nida.

About this destination

From June to early September, the Curonian Spit (Kuršių nerija) — a 98 km sand peninsula shared with Russia — lives its full summer. The Lithuanian half is a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape and a national park. Days are spent on the Baltic-facing beaches of Nida, Pervalka and Juodkrantė (all Blue Flag), climbing the 52-metre Parnidis Dune to read the giant sundial, kayaking the Curonian Lagoon, watching cormorants at Juodkrantė's rookery, or visiting the Thomas Mann summer house and the Hill of Witches wooden-sculpture trail. The fishing village core of Nida — coloured timber cottages with traditional weathervanes — fills with seafood restaurants and small art galleries. Ferry from Klaipėda is required (5 minutes, cars onboard).

Best time to visit

Mid-June to early September; Sea Festival in late July at Klaipėda; quietest in the first week of September.

Why a private transfer

Public transport is sparse along the 50 km of road inside the park. We handle the ferry from Klaipėda, the national-park permit and door-to-door drop at your guesthouse in Nida or Juodkrantė. Bikes and luggage can travel onboard — fixed price.
