Grimaud — Medieval Village of the Gulf

Grimaud — Medieval Village of the Gulf

A perched Provençal village with cobblestone alleys, a ruined castle and sweeping views over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

About this destination

Grimaud is one of the most beautiful hilltop villages of the Var, rising above the plain between the Maures mountains and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Its medieval lanes wind past the 11th-century castle ruins, the 12th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Michel and the restored Saint-Roch windmill. Below the old village lies Port Grimaud, the famous marina designed by François Spoerry in the 1960s, known as the 'Venice of Provence' for its canals and pastel houses. The surrounding landscape is a tapestry of pine forests, olive groves and vineyards producing Côtes de Provence rosé. In summer, classical concerts echo through the castle ruins during the Grimaldian Festival.

Best time to visit

Late spring (May–June) and September for mild weather and lavender. July–August for the Grimaldian Festival and buzzing seaside atmosphere.

Why a private transfer

Narrow mountain roads and scarce parking around the hilltop village make a private chauffeur the most comfortable way to arrive. We pick you up at Nice, Toulon or Marseille and bring you directly to your mas, villa or hotel in Grimaud — fixed price, door to door.
