Lavender fields of Provence — the Valensole plateau
Endless purple rows under a deep blue sky — Provence's iconic summer landscape.
About this destination
From late June to mid-July the Valensole plateau and the Sault basin turn into a sea of purple corduroy that scents the air for kilometres. Valensole is the largest and most photogenic plateau — long unbroken rows beside isolated stone farms and lone oaks — while Sault, higher and cooler, blooms about two weeks later. Add the Abbaye de Sénanque near Gordes, where lavender frames a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, and you have the three picture-perfect lavender stops of Provence. Most distilleries open their doors during the harvest in mid-July.
Best time to visit
Approximately 20 June – 20 July on Valensole; first half of August around Sault.
Why a private transfer
Lavender is spread across remote plateaus with no public transport, narrow farm roads, and brief peak bloom. A private chauffeur is the only way to combine Valensole, Sault and Sénanque comfortably in one day from Aix, Avignon or the Riviera.
