Roussillon — Village of Ochres

Roussillon — Village of Ochres

A blaze of red, orange and rust — Provence's most colourful village, set on cliffs of pure ochre.

About this destination

Roussillon sits atop one of the world's largest ochre deposits. Houses are washed in seventeen shades of yellow, orange and red, with shutters in faded blues and greens. The Sentier des Ocres (Ochre Path) winds through a former quarry of cathedral-like pinnacles, and the nearby Conservatoire des Ocres et de la Couleur tells the story of natural pigments that once coloured Europe's textiles and façades. A Plus Beaux Villages de France member in the heart of the Luberon.

Best time to visit

April–June and September–October. Midday summer is hot; visit ochre trails early or late.

Why a private transfer

Village parking fills early and ochre lanes are narrow. We drop you at the main square and wait — fixed price from Avignon, Aix or your Luberon villa.
