Trakai Castle Events — Medieval Festivals & Lake Concerts
Lithuania's island castle hosts open-air classical concerts, medieval reenactments and the famous Užgavėnės carnival — all on a wooden footbridge over Lake Galvė.
About this destination
Trakai Island Castle (14th century, rebuilt 1962) is one of Eastern Europe's most photographed monuments. Its courtyard hosts a summer concert series (Trakai Festival, late May–August) with orchestras under the open sky; medieval festivals with armoured combat, falconry and Karaim cuisine on summer weekends; and the pre-Lent Užgavėnės carnival in February with mask-burning on the frozen lake. Outside event days, the castle museum, the Karaim Kenesa (one of three working Karaite synagogues in the world) and a boat trip on Lake Galvė complete the half-day.
Best time to visit
May–August for festivals; February for Užgavėnės on the ice.
Why a private transfer
Trakai is 28 km from Vilnius — easy half-day. Last buses back leave before evening concerts end. Direct chauffeur waits during the event — fixed price, no parking stress.
